Advisory Panel to Address Higher Ed Information Security Concerns

Open Forum will exchange ideas on key information security risk concerns.

DAYTON, OHIO, December 17, 2008- Growing security concerns and reported breaches in the academic sector has prompted Digital Controls Technology Services Group to stage an Information Security Advisory Panel focusing on Ohio’s higher education sector. On January 30, 2009,  those in roles key to guiding information security directives at area colleges and universities will come together to exchange ideas on how to address information security initiatives in Ohio’s higher education space. Details and Registration Can Be Found Here.

The forum will be hosted at Cox Aboretum's Mead Westvaco Theatre south of Dayton. Digital Controls will provide a Senior Security Practitioner to moderate with limited involvement - to keep the exchange moving along with a flow of ideas from participants.

Some of the key topics Chief Information Security Officers have suggested for inclusion on the Panel's agenda are "Compliancy with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)", "H.R. 4137 Part R Campus-Based Digital Theft Prevention", "House Bill 648 Proposed Rules Governing Access to Confidential Personal Information Maintained", "Security Training on the Campus Environment", and "Reporting Risk to the President and Board".

“We’ve been involved with several area universities in the last few years. It made sense, given the current economy, to bring key IT decision-makers together. Maybe some creative, cost efficient ways can be identified to address the prevalent information security issues.” said Vernon Dye, Digital Controls, Marketing Manager.

Colleges and universities interested in participating in the open forum are invited to contact Digital Controls Corporation to request a seat at vernon.dye@digitalcontrols.com
